Their small mud house with thatched roof and timber rafters was a perfect example of rustic simplicity. The quaint wooden doors and windows seemed lifted straight away from a fiction. The beautiful front yard undoubtedly created an ambience of serenity and homeliness. The life in the village is always sumptuous.


Mr. Biswaraj Adhikari was in foreign employment for 18 years. However, it did not take him a minute to decide that he should come back to Nepal and start over. He has registered the agriculture and livestock business, which is owned by his wife Mrs. Sita Adhikari. He has taken an agriculture loan. He spends 18 hours daily in the farm looking after goats and chickens. ‘A goat weighed more than 60kg this year, which is the highest commercial weight I have ever got. I have plan to sell it in Dashain – the great national festival coming next week’, he spoke up with cheerfulness.


Mr. Biswaraj Adhikari is usually prompt to deposit regular EMI. ‘The rate of interest is high in agriculture cooperative. I had goats as the only segment, now there are chickens. I am also growing vegetables these days. Now, I am looking for concessional interest and exploring target markets,’ he stated. The climate in Astam village makes land more productive. “He hopes to respond to it responsibly by adding more inputs and learning decent farm practices”.
